Growing up, I was a competitive dancer. This taught me self-discipline, teamwork, and ignited my creativity. I loved how dancing brought people together who shared the same passion – you could just feel the energy!
However, if you asked my dance teachers, I’m confident they would say I loved the social aspect the most. Dance was another outlet for me to meet new people, learn about different cultures and understand my strengths and weaknesses in a new environment separate from school.
Naturally, I decided to complete my undergraduate degree in Professional Communication, with a double minor in Psychology and Public Relations at Ryerson University. During my undergrad, I started working part-time as a Sales Representative for United Craft, an organization that helps small local producers sell and distribute craft alcohol in Ontario. Through this experience, I realized how powerful interpersonal skills can be in the acquisition of new clients and networking. Throughout my undergrad, I also had the opportunity to work in public relations and marketing. Upon graduation, I became the Social Marketing Manager for Graydon Skincare.
My time at Graydon Skincare was also very formative. Given the start-up environment, I was able to take the reins on various projects, whether it was social media, customer service, or training new employees, as the company expanded. A year later, I started working at Cubert, an e-commerce agency in Toronto. Here I was able to further develop my marketing skills by exceeding weekly revenue, engagement, and lead generation targets for two different online B2C stores. Although I loved the fast-paced environment, marketing a product was not feeding my soul – I missed building meaningful connections with people.
In January 2022, I decided to pursue a postgraduate certificate in Human Resource Management at Humber College. So far, what I love most is learning how to empower both employers and employees by leveraging talent to foster organizational success. As I start my journey at STA, I’m delighted to grow as a recruiting professional and learn from the industry’s best.
